Most women have been taught something that sounds nice, but actually hurts them.

They’re told that if they just love a man enough, give enough, and stay long enough, he will eventually choose them. So they try harder. They give more. They explain more. They stay even when it doesn’t feel good.

And instead of getting closer to love, they end up feeling confused, drained, and unsure of where they stand.

The truth is, you don’t attract a great man by doing more.

You attract him by refusing what’s wrong for you.

I’m Antia Boyd with Magnetize Your Man, and together with my husband Brody, we’ve helped thousands of women all over the world create a loving, long-term, committed relationship with a man they truly desire for over 20 years combined. We’ve also shared this work at Google, the Harvard University Faculty Club, and Good Morning San Diego.

And what we’ve seen again and again is this:

The women who attract the best men are not the ones who try harder. They’re the ones who stop accepting the things that break attraction and kill respect. They keep their heart open, but their standards strong.

And once you understand these 5 things, you’ll start to see exactly why some women get chosen while others stay stuck in confusion.

Refuse Letting Attraction Override Your Standards

A spark is not a green light.

Just because you feel something strong does not mean he is right for you. A man can be attractive, charming, and exciting, and still not be good for your heart.

This is where many women get pulled in. They feel that rush, and then they start explaining away things that should matter. They say things like, “He’s confusing, but he’s deep.” But he may not be deep. He may just be unclear.

There’s a difference.

You can feel strong attraction to a man who is inconsistent, emotionally unavailable, selfish, or not ready for a real relationship. That feeling does not mean he’s your person. It just means you feel something. And sometimes that feeling is not chemistry. Sometimes it’s old patterns showing up again.

That’s why a smart woman decides her standards before she gets swept away. She knows what kind of man she’s available for. She knows how she wants to feel in a relationship. She knows what is good for her and what is not.

So when a man shows up and he’s attractive but also unclear or inconsistent, she doesn’t call it fate. She calls it information.

She pays attention. She protects her heart. And she doesn’t give her time, energy, body, and devotion to a man who hasn’t shown he can handle it.

One simple line can help you stay grounded here: “Could I ask for some clarity on that?” This keeps you out of guessing and helps you see what’s real.

Smart women don’t let feelings make the final decision. They let standards lead.

Refuse Rewarding Inconsistency With More Access to You

If he is hot and cold, don’t give him warmer access. If he disappears, don’t reward him when he comes back. If he is confusing, don’t give him deeper closeness.

A lot of women think they are being loving when they stay open to a man who is inconsistent. But what they are really doing is teaching him that he can show up halfway and still get everything from them.

If he texts you a lot one week and then disappears the next, that’s not mystery. That’s inconsistency.

If he comes in strong, fades, comes back, and you keep giving him more each time, you are not building a relationship. You are running an emotional Airbnb. He comes and goes, and you keep the door open.

At some point, the problem is not just his behavior. It’s your access.

Inconsistency should not lead to more intimacy. It should lead to more awareness.

A strong, feminine way to handle this is to share how you feel clearly and then watch what he does. You can say, “May I share something with you?” Wait for him to say yes.

Then say, “I feel sad when I hear from you a lot one week and then not at all the next. I start to feel like I’m not a priority, and I’m not sure what to do.”

Then stop.

Let him respond. Let him show you who he is.

You don’t need to chase him or manage him. You just need to see if he steps up.

Reward consistency. Reward care. Reward effort. But don’t reward confusion with access to you.

Refuse Trying to Be Chosen by Forgetting You Are the Chooser

Many women date like they are trying to be picked. They ask, “How do I make him want me?” or “How do I get him to choose me?”

But that’s the wrong question.

You are not here to audition for love. You are the chooser too.

When a woman forgets that, she starts trying too hard. She gives too much, becomes too available, and starts doing all the work. And then the attraction starts to fade.

The feminine energy is not about chasing. It’s about being open, warm, and responsive. It’s about allowing a man to come toward you.

That doesn’t mean you don’t show interest. It means you don’t carry the whole connection.

A man often values what he invests in. He values what he works toward. He values the woman who knows she is worth choosing.

There was a moment while dating Antia when everything became clear. Sitting in an apartment in San Francisco, it became obvious that life without her didn’t make sense. It felt easy. It felt natural. That was the moment the desire to fully commit showed up.

She didn’t force that moment. She didn’t chase it. She created space for it.

That’s what many women miss.

When you overgive and overpursue, you remove the space for a man to step up.

A simple way to guide this is saying, “I feel so good when you plan things for us.” It’s warm, clear, and encourages him to lead.

When you remember that you are the chooser, everything shifts. You stop asking how to get him and start asking if he deserves you.

Refuse Staying Past the 90-Day Proof Window if There’s No Upward Direction

You don’t need perfection, but you do need proof.

The first 90 days are about patterns. Is he growing? Is he becoming more clear? Is he investing more? Is he showing more care?

Or are you still trying to figure him out?

Too many women stay because of potential. They remember one great date, one deep conversation, or one strong moment, and they build a whole future on that.

But one moment is not a pattern. Potential is not reality.

What matters is direction.

Is the relationship moving forward? Is he stepping up more over time?

If not, then staying longer will not fix it. It will only drain you.

In our coaching, we’ve seen women stay far too long hoping things will change, even when the signs are clear.

But if a man wants to build something real with you, you will see movement. You will feel it.

One client, Stephanie, experienced this shift. She was with a man who had strong qualities but was inconsistent. When she changed how she showed up, he began showing up differently too. She started feeling seen, heard, and valued, and that led to a proposal.

That’s what you’re looking for. Real effort. Real change. Real direction.

And if that’s not there after enough time, your job is not to fix him. Your job is to choose yourself.

You step back. You detach. You move on.

Not because you are cold, but because you respect your value.

Refuse Becoming the Big Spoon in the Relationship

If you are doing everything, the relationship will not feel good.

If you are planning everything, fixing everything, and carrying everything, you are no longer in a romantic dynamic. You are in a management role, and that is exhausting.

Many women fall into this because they are strong and capable. They handle life well. But in love, doing everything kills the connection.

A healthy relationship has balance. The masculine leads, and the feminine responds.

If you are leading all the time, the energy shifts.

Think of dancing. When one person leads and the other responds, it flows. When both try to lead, it feels off.

Think of driving. If two people try to control the wheel, the car won’t move smoothly.

You don’t have to become passive or lose your voice. But you also don’t need to carry everything. A simple shift is asking, “Could I ask for your help with something?” This allows him to step up, allows you to receive, and creates balance.

A healthy man wants to give. He wants to show up and feel needed in a real way. And a healthy woman allows that without losing herself.

That’s where attraction grows.

Get The Relationship Of Your Dreams

The right man isn’t looking for a woman to chase him, fix him, or carry the entire relationship.

He’s looking for a woman who feels good to be with. A woman who is open, warm, clear about what she wants, and knows her value.

That’s why these shifts matter so much.

When you stop rewarding inconsistency, stop ignoring red flags, stop overgiving, and stop trying to be chosen, everything starts to change. You feel more grounded, more clear, and more in control. And the kind of man you attract starts to change too.

This is how you move from confusion to clarity. From almost-relationships to real commitment.
